Emergency data backup and rescue on Lanzarote
Quick backups, data rescue and next steps
I can do emergency backups from most devices if you have reason to suspect that they are about to fail or already failing. Depending on your needs, we source a drive for you, which we will encrypt and set up for further use, you can bring your own, or I may have one we can use temporarily.
The process
How it works
About me
Pekka Gaiser
I've worked in IT for 25 years, and for several of them I ran a mobile tech-support service in Cologne, Germany, driving to people's homes and offices.
I've built things for the web since the early 2000s including large web platforms and APIs for many organisations across several industries and countries.
For years I was one of the top-ten contributors on Stack Overflow, the world's largest programming Q&A site.

Frequently asked questions
What are the chances of getting my data back?
It depends on the nature of the fault. With drive defects, it is often only possible to find out whether a rescue is feasible once the drive is removed and connected to another system.
How fast can you respond?
I can't always promise an instant reply, but it's typically the same day, often within a few hours, and often outside normal business hours. Tell me your deadline and you get a realistic answer on whether I can meet it.
Why is there an upfront payment?
Upfront payment confirms the job and I reserve a time slot for you. You receive a transparent estimat, no part of the cost is hidden.
Do you work with companies or just individuals?
Both. I issue a proper Spanish invoice in my own name (NIF-supported, 7% Canary Islands VAT/IGIC included), which is easily claimable as a business expense.
What if you can't fix the problem?
You get a realistic estimate of success before we start, and I do everything I can to make it work. However, as a general rule, time worked is time billed regardless of outcome, and travel, sourcing and delivery are part of the agreed price. If the estimate changes while I work, you hear about it immediately and get to choose whether to continue or not.
How much does it cost?
A €50 call-out fee anywhere on the island, then €1.50 per minute of work. Residents get 25% off, and there are discounts for larger or recurring jobs. You get an upfront estimate and will be updated immediately should the estimate change.
How are warranties handled when you source hardware?
I do not put any markup on the hardware I purchase for you: you get the original receipt from the store in your name or your company's name. As a consequence, I do not handle any resulting warranty issues. If it turns out the hardware purchase has a manufacturing defect, the store or manufacturer is responsible. While I will of course help you sort out the issue, I am not liable for the warranty in any way.
Which areas of Lanzarote do you cover?
The whole island. Travel is included in your estimate. There's a single €50 call-out fee wherever you are on Lanzarote. The call-out fee does not apply when the job is remote.
Do we have to meet at my house or accommodation?
No. We can meet wherever you want, including in a cafe, coworking space, or any other public place. Whatever works best for you.
Can a family member arrange and pay for the visit?
Absolutely. A son or daughter often books the visit and settles the estimate, and I keep them updated if they would like.
Can you help in my language?
I can help you in English, German, Finnish and Spanish.
What's your cancellation policy?
Once an appointment is booked, cancellation fee is €50 - I have to make time, arrange travel, and reject other jobs.
How do I pay, and do I get an invoice?
Cash, all major cards including Mastercard, Visa and Maestro, and mobile wallets such as Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay, in person. For remote work you can pay by bank transfer or a Stripe payment link. I'm a registered Spanish autónomo, so you receive a proper invoice including 7% Canary Islands VAT (IGIC).
