Slow Mac and iMac tune-up on Lanzarote

A Mac that takes an age to start, a spinning beachball on everything, an iMac with the fans roaring, or a "disk almost full" warning that will not go away. Often this is fixable at your kitchen table without shipping anything anywhere. I tune up slow Macs and iMacs on the island and, where it is a hardware question, give you a straight repair-or-replace verdict instead of a guess. Send me a message with what it is doing, and you get a transparentupfront estimate.
Slow Mac and iMac tune-up on Lanzarote

Faster today, or a straight answer on replacing it

A lot of Macs that feel finished are simply clogged: dozens of things launching at login, a drive squeezed to the last few gigabytes, a runaway background process, or a macOS that never got a proper clear-out. Most of that I sort at your place in one visit, and the machine that felt ready for the bin often has years left in it. If the disk shows any sign of struggling, your files get copied off first, before any work that could push it.

Sometimes, though, slow is hardware. An ageing spinning drive, failing memory or a component on its way out will not be fixed by tidying up, and pretending otherwise wastes your money. In those cases I diagnose the fault, tell you plainly what it is, and give you a repair-or-replace verdict. iMac parts and board-level work go to official Apple service, since there is no Apple Store on Lanzarote, and I handle that logistics if you want it off your plate.

If the verdict is replace, I can source a new Mac on the island and migrate everything across, see Mac sourced, set up and delivered. For the wider Apple picture, see Mac help on Lanzarote. You get an upfront estimate before any work begins.

What a slow Mac usually looks like

The Mac takes minutes to start and stay usable

Too much launching at login, or a drive that is close to full or beginning to fail.

A spinning beachball on nearly everything

The machine gasping for memory or disk space, or a background process running wild.

"Your disk is almost full" that never clears

Photos, old backups and caches you cannot find, eating the space.

An older iMac with the fans always roaring

Heat, dust or a stuck process, and sometimes a sign a part is on the way out.

A Mac too slow to bother with, but too full of stuff to bin

The moment for a straight repair-or-replace call before you spend on either.

Frequently asked questions

Can you speed up my Mac at my home?

Often, yes. Startup clutter, background processes, an almost full disk and a neglected macOS are the usual causes. If a physical defect is suspected, we make a data backup first.

Is repairing my old iMac worth it, or should I replace it?

You get a realistic assessment, not a sales pitch. Sometimes an older machine can serve well for years to come; sometimes it makes more sense to part with it.

Can you swap parts in an iMac?

On older models replacing individual parts is often possible, on newer models only to a limited extent. We clarify that beforehand.

My disk is constantly full and I do not understand why.

It is often old backups, photo libraries, caches and downloads that are not easy to see. We find together what can be cleaned up.

How fast can you respond?

I can't always promise an instant reply, but it's typically the same day, often within a few hours, and often outside normal business hours. Tell me your deadline and you get a realistic answer on whether I can meet it.

Why is there an upfront payment?

Upfront payment confirms the job and I reserve a time slot for you. You receive a transparent estimat, no part of the cost is hidden.

Do you work with companies or just individuals?

Both. I issue a proper Spanish invoice in my own name (NIF-supported, 7% Canary Islands VAT/IGIC included), which is easily claimable as a business expense.

What if you can't fix the problem?

You get a realistic estimate of success before we start, and I do everything I can to make it work. However, as a general rule, time worked is time billed regardless of outcome, and travel, sourcing and delivery are part of the agreed price. If the estimate changes while I work, you hear about it immediately and get to choose whether to continue or not.

How much does it cost?

A €50 call-out fee anywhere on the island, then €1.50 per minute of work. Residents get 25% off, and there are discounts for larger or recurring jobs. You get an upfront estimate and will be updated immediately should the estimate change.

How are warranties handled when you source hardware?

I do not put any markup on the hardware I purchase for you: you get the original receipt from the store in your name or your company's name. As a consequence, I do not handle any resulting warranty issues. If it turns out the hardware purchase has a manufacturing defect, the store or manufacturer is responsible. While I will of course help you sort out the issue, I am not liable for the warranty in any way.

Which areas of Lanzarote do you cover?

The whole island. Travel is included in your estimate. There's a single €50 call-out fee wherever you are on Lanzarote. The call-out fee does not apply when the job is remote.

Do we have to meet at my house or accommodation?

No. We can meet wherever you want, including in a cafe, coworking space, or any other public place. Whatever works best for you.

Can a family member arrange and pay for the visit?

Absolutely. A son or daughter often books the visit and settles the estimate, and I keep them updated if they would like.

Can you help in my language?

I can help you in English, German, Finnish and Spanish.

What's your cancellation policy?

Once an appointment is booked, cancellation fee is €50 - I have to make time, arrange travel, and reject other jobs.

How do I pay, and do I get an invoice?

Cash, all major cards including Mastercard, Visa and Maestro, and mobile wallets such as Apple Pay, Google Pay and Samsung Pay, in person. For remote work you can pay by bank transfer or a Stripe payment link. I'm a registered Spanish autónomo, so you receive a proper invoice including 7% Canary Islands VAT (IGIC).
